SQ3R is a structured, active reading comprehension method designed to help you process, understand, and retain information efficiently from textbooks, articles, and educational materials.

The acronym stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review.


The 5 Steps of SQ3R

1. Survey (S):

 Scan the text before reading it thoroughly. Look at titles, headings, subheadings, charts, diagrams, bold text, and chapter summaries. This provides a mental map of the materia

2. Question (Q): 

 Turn titles and headings into questions (e.g., if the heading is "Causes of Inflation," ask "What are the causes of inflation?"). This creates active purpose and curiosity for your reading.

3. Read (R1): 

Read the section actively to find answers to the questions you just created. Focus on key ideas, concepts, and core arguments.

4. Recite (R2):

 After finishing a section, pause and state the main ideas in your own words out loud or write down brief notes without looking at the text. This tests your understanding immediately.

5. Review (R3): 

After completing the whole chapter or text, review the material by re-reading your notes or answering your original questions.

Repeat this periodically to lock the information into long-term memory.
