Tense indicates the time of an action, state, or event relative to the moment of speaking. It shows whether an action happened in the past, happens in the present, or will happen in the future.

Grammatical tenses combine time (Present, Past, Future) with aspect (Simple, Continuous/Progressive, Perfect, Perfect Continuous).

1 ) Present  tense 

Used for actions happening now, general truths, habits, or ongoing states.

Simple Present

Use: Expresses habits, routines, general facts, or permanent situations.

Example: She writes code every day.

Present Continuous (Progressive)

Use: Expresses actions happening right now at the moment of speech or temporary situations.

Example: She is writing code right now.

Present Perfect

Use: Connects the past to the present; used for actions completed at an unspecified time or past events with present relevance.

Example: She has written three modules today.

Present perfect continuous 

Use: Emphasizes the duration of an action that started in the past and continues into the present.

Example: She has been writing code for two hours.

2. Past Tense

Used for actions or states that took place and completed before the current moment.

Simple Past

Use: Expresses actions completed at a specific time in the past.

Example: She wrote the report yesterday.

Past Continuous (Progressive)

Use: Describes an action that was ongoing at a specific moment in the past.

Example: She was writing the report when the phone rang.

Past Perfect

Use: Shows that one action occurred before another past action or specified time in the past.

Example: She had written the report before the meeting started.

Past Perfect Continuous

Use: Emphasizes the ongoing duration of an action up until a specific past time.

Example: She had been writing for hours before she took a break.

3. Future Tense

Used for actions, states, or events expected to happen after the current moment.

Simple Future

Use: Expresses future predictions, spontaneous decisions, or promises.

Future Continuous (Progressive)

Use: Indicates an action that will be ongoing at a specific point in the future.

Future Perfect
